The home of Jesse A. Clement (1808-1876) is a significant part of Davie County history. Believed to have been built in 1828, the house is a fine ex. of regional Federal-style architecture. The two-story home was constructed using bricks made on the property. (See Attch for more Legend and Construction Info) The bricks feature a combination of English and Flemish bond, with the Flemish style being more decorative. The house has three bays, 9-over-9 sash windows with some original wavy glass, seven hand-carved fireplaces, (3 working) and retains much of its original interior, including heart pine flooring, pegged doors, and woodwork. The original attic beams can still be seen with large pegs securing the roof. The home’s design and construction reflect the craftsmanship and style, and despite changes over time, much of the original architecture has been preserved. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
